The final of the 13th Tsinghua IE Sword Competition of National Industrial Engineering Application is held in Tsinghua University on November 18. A team from our college is qualified to take part in the final competition and get the highest prize with their excellent performances, which is a breakthrough for our university to get a prize. This team is instructed by three teachers and consisted of four students, Qian Huilin, Ge Lulu, Yan Ruoyan and Shen Yinhai. Their case for this competition is the study on improving the products of Company F with its plan of producing. Besides, other four teams led by teachers, Xie Naiming, Yu Xianyu, Zhuang Ping, Liu Wenjie, Ouyang Linhan, Xu Zhitao and Che Jian, win the third prize in the preliminary round.

      This year, the competition is hosted by the Steering Committee on Industrial Engineering Education of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, the Steering Committee of China Engineering Master Education, Innovation Method Society, the Sub-committee on Teaching Guidance of Innovative Methods of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China, Institute of Quality and Reliability of Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University, Chinese Ergonomics Society, Dongfeng Nissan, and Department of Industrial Engineering of Tsinghua University. 215 teams, from colleges and universities, and 49 teams, from enterprises, have taken part in the preliminary round. And after the experts’ evaluation, it is confirmed that ten teams representing the enterprises and other ten teams like Tsinghua University, Jilin University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, are qualified for the final round.

      The competition is the most influential in the area of industry and engineering, which is held once a year. About 500 people watch this competition, including government officials, the entrepreneurs, the experts and the senior executive of Chinese manufacturing and logistics; and the jury is consisted of around 60 persons, including experts, scholars, chief executive officers and senior executives. Professor Zhou Dequn, the dean of our college, is invited to be one of the judges in the final, and comments on the cases from every team.

      Our college’s cases winning prizes come into being in the in the program for internship called Military Exercise during the summer holiday. Winning the highest prize, the study on improving the products of Company F with its plan of producing aims at the company’s assembly workshop, print element workshop, and PT production workshop. And sticking to perfecting ourselves, we have improved the the flow of producing PT with DMAIC. Based on this, we set up a schedule for three workshops’ cooperation by utilizing the genetic analysis, which provides the systematic specialized solution for enterprises.

      In addition, our college starts 12 students to watching this competition, listening to the speeches from twelve guests, such as Zhang Xinguo who the vice general manager of Aviation Industry Corporation of China, and Professor Zheng Li who is the vice president of Tsinghua University. Meanwhile, they have watched the debates of 20 cases on the spot. It broadens their horizon and improves their ability. What’s more, on the spot are Tu Zhihong who is the Deputy Secretary of Communist Party of China of our college, Pang Yida who is the Secretary of Youth League Committee, and our college’s counselors, Tian Yuan’na, Hu Xinyu, and Xu Naiyuan. 
      College of Economics and Management always values on the students’ spirit of innovation and the ability to practice, encourages students to actively take part in the academic and scientific competitions in-class and after-class. Recently, The model, the internship of Military Exercise, is carried out in over ten enterprises containing Chervon, Phoenix Contact, and Fujitsu, which supply abundant material. The communication organized by IE organization of students broadens their horizon about the engineering and strengthens the ability to lecturing and demonstrating. During the period of preparation, the instructors give the students many suggestions in many ways like texts, power points, speech and body language to assist them overcoming kinds of difficulties, which aid students to get so many achievements.
