报告摘要：

Synthetic control method (SCM) identifies causal treatment effects by constructing a counterfactual treatment unit as a convex combination of donors in the control group, such that the weights of donors and predictors are jointly optimized during the pre-treatment period. A re-examination of the original SCM study on Basque terrorism by Abadie and Gardeazabal (2003) demonstrates numerical instability of the SCM algorithm: random reordering of the donors or predictors affects the empirical results. We show that the numerical instability of SCM is an even more widespread problem, affecting also the original SCM setting.

报告人简介：

周迅博士，南航经管学院2012届本科毕业生和2015届硕士毕业生，现任英国约克大学环境与地理系讲师（助理教授），即将任职英国萨里大学商学院高级讲师（副教授）。他的研究领域主要包括（1）效率与生产率分析，例如凸分位数回归、数据包括分析、绿色全要素生产率；（2）因果推断与政策评价，例如合成控制法；（3）非市场价值评估，例如影子价格估计。在European Journal of Operational Research、World Development、Energy Economics等期刊发表了10余篇论文，被引500余次。担任英国国家科研与创新署（UKRI）以及多个国际期刊的匿名审稿人。
