The 1.5 degree C climate objective must be achieved to spare humanity the worst of a global disaster. To achieve this goal, and to promote social equity will require all national to make good on climate protection commitments made at and after the Paris Climate Conference of 2015. That alone will not be enough. Decarbonization must be accelerated in all nations and regions through a new wave of innovation and deployment. China and the United States can and must coordinate efforts to push both the innovation and implementation parts of this equation. Drawing on examples from Bangladesh, California, Kenya, and Malaysia and China, this talk will explore the benefits beyond climate protection that can come from meeting these goals.
